The DAA–da Foundation has condemned the reported attack on the campaign convoy of Hon. Aderemi Oseni at Agbaje Market, Ibadan North-West Local Government Area, describing the incident as deeply concerning and calling for a prompt, thorough and impartial investigation by the relevant security agencies. Reports indicate that the incident occurred on Wednesday while Oseni and members of his team were engaging market associations in Agbaje, Ayeye and Idikan as part of their consultations ahead of the 2027 elections. According to reports, gunfire caused traders, residents and members of the campaign team to flee, while some vehicles in the convoy were reportedly damaged. In a statement issued on behalf of the Foundation, Hon. Dr. Demilade Akin-Alabi described any incident involving alleged violence during a political engagement as a matter that should receive the immediate attention of the security authorities. The Foundation therefore called on the Oyo State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, establish the facts, identify anyone found responsible and take appropriate action in accordance with the law. Similar calls for an investigation have also been made by other public figures following the reported incident. The Foundation stressed that there should be no speculation, retaliation or assumption of guilt before the conclusion of a proper investigation. It urged the security agencies to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the reported attack and make their findings known through the appropriate channels. Demilade Akin-Alabi further emphasised that political disagreements should never degenerate into threats to the safety of candidates, supporters, traders, residents or any member of the public. The Foundation also appealed to political actors and their supporters across Oyo State to remain calm and law-abiding, while allowing the appropriate authorities to handle the matter. “Democracy must provide room for peaceful consultation, disagreement and competition. No political objective should justify violence or intimidation. What happened at Agbaje deserves serious scrutiny, and the appropriate authorities must establish exactly what happened and who was responsible.” The Foundation commended the reported restraint of those involved and urged all political stakeholders to prioritise the protection of lives, peaceful civic participation and respect for the rule of law as political activities continue.
