As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon. Ismail Abidemi Lawal, popularly known as WEPO, has entered the race for the Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency, anchoring his ambition on a combination of global professional experience and a commitment to grassroots representation.

Lawal, a professional, entrepreneur and technology expert with international exposure, is seeking to translate his experience across different business and professional environments into effective legislative representation for the people of the constituency.

His political aspiration comes against growing calls for representatives who can combine competence, experience and accessibility in addressing the challenges confronting their constituents.

Lawal’s professional background cuts across Nigeria, South Africa and the United States. He previously served as Regional Director of Operations for CAMAC International in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he gained experience in strategic operations, organisational management and leadership.

He also served as a Director at KDJH Properties & Real Estate Investments in North Carolina, United States, further broadening his experience in business development, real estate investment and enterprise management.

His supporters see the international dimension of his career as an advantage that could bring a broader perspective to issues of economic opportunity, technology, youth development and community advancement.

Beyond his corporate experience, Lawal has continued to strengthen his professional capacity, with certifications including Oracle Java Expert and CompTIA Project Management.

With the 2027 contest gradually taking shape, his campaign is expected to focus on the argument that the experience gained beyond Nigeria can be deployed to address challenges at home.

For Lawal, the ambition is therefore being framed around a simple political proposition: global experience should translate into local impact.

The candidate is positioning himself as a voice capable of combining professional competence with grassroots engagement, while promising representation centred on the interests and aspirations of the people of Ibadan North-East and South-East.

As the political contest intensifies, the question before voters will be whether his international exposure, technological knowledge and entrepreneurial background can translate into the kind of effective representation they expect from their federal lawmaker.

For his supporters, however, the message is already clear: experience that speaks, capacity that delivers and leadership that serves.
