Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has sent a strong appeal to external political actors—specifically an unnamed prominent political figure from Imo State—to steer clear of the governorship election in Osun State. Davido, who spoke as a voice for the Osun Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team, also cautioned youths and supporters across the state to reject violence, intimidation, and destruction of property before, during, and after the polls. In an audio broadcast addressed to residents, youths, and political stakeholders, the music icon commended the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing him as the authentic Chief Security Officer and one of the best governors to ever rule the state. He noted that the administration’s projects, integrity, and diligence speak for themselves, expressing confidence that their movement will secure victory at the polls for a third time. While charging Osun youths to remain calm despite the rising political tension, Davido urged voters to come out boldly to exercise their civic rights without fear of thuggery or harassment. He stressed that voters should not allow provocation to derail the democratic process, reminding them that their peaceful disposition has always been their greatest strength. The award-winning singer reiterated that every eligible voter in Osun State has a constitutional right to choose their preferred leader freely. According to him, the choice of the people must be respected without exception, as true democratic victory can only come through the ballot box rather than through coercion or fear. He urged residents to prove to the world that Osun people are courageous, peaceful, and committed to building a prosperous future for the state. Addressing widespread rumours of alleged plans by external political power brokers to manipulate the Osun election, Davido directed a respectful but firm message to a political leader from Imo State. Leveraging his family ties to Imo State through his wife, Chioma, the singer appealed for neutrality and peace, asking that the state not be turned into a political battleground to settle scores. He clarified that while he was not presenting the claims of interference as proven facts, he felt compelled to use his voice to call for calm and restraint. He appealed to the political figure to use his influence to promote peace rather than division, noting that their mutual connections and his deep personal attachment to Imo State made his appeal even more sincere. The singer concluded his address by warning political parties and their supporters against desperation, stressing that the sovereignty of the people must always prevail over personal or party ambition. He charged all stakeholders to allow democracy to take its full course by letting the electorate decide who governs them without external pressure. Davido reminded politicians that political contests are temporary, whereas Osun State will remain forever. He declared that no political victory is worth violence, destruction, or the loss of a single life, urging all camps to accept the outcome of the polls peacefully whether it favours them or not.
