Popular broadcaster, actor and politician, Amb. (Dr.) Opeyemi Ayanrinde, popularly known as MC Swagger, has reflected on his remarkable journey from the broadcast studio to the political arena, describing it as a path shaped by resilience, dedication and an unwavering commitment to grassroots development. Speaking on his career trajectory, MC Swagger said his years in broadcasting, entertainment and public engagement prepared him for leadership and community service, stressing that every milestone he has achieved was earned through consistency, hard work and the trust of the people. A native of Eruwa in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State, MC Swagger said his passion for communication began early and blossomed into a successful broadcasting career that saw him work with several radio and television stations across the country. The Higher National Diploma holder in Business Administration and Communication from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has also built an impressive profile in Nigeria’s entertainment industry as an actor, producer, event compere and music orator. In 2008, he produced his debut Yoruba movie, Iseda Mi, while also featuring in several Nollywood productions. Beyond entertainment, he has held strategic leadership positions, including serving as the pioneer Governor of the Association of Nigerian Broadcasters (ANBROAD), Oyo State Chapter, and Coordinator of the Forum of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Business Membership Organisations (BMOs) of Nigeria in Oyo State. MC Swagger is also the Chief Executive Officer of Silver World Entertainment and the promoter of Rock Radio/TV Ibadan, platforms he said were established to create opportunities for young talents and strengthen the media and entertainment industries. His contributions have earned him ambassadorial roles for several organisations, including First Eye Cultural Concept in Dallas, Texas, Mark 7 Investment Limited, makers of Koboko Herbal Bitters, and JIT Empirical Global Consult. Over the years, he has received several awards and recognitions for his contributions to broadcasting, leadership and entertainment. These include a Certificate of Leadership and First Aid Officer from the Nigerian Red Cross Society in 2004, the Distinguished Leadership Award presented in 2021 by a United Nations-accredited organisation, and an Honorary Doctorate Fellowship in Business Management and Leadership conferred by the Awedu Institute of Business Management and Leadership, Port Harcourt, in February 2025. His influence also extends beyond Nigeria, having been nominated for the Annual Yoruba Cultural Festival in Dallas, Texas, in 2016 and 2017. Reflecting on his political journey, MC Swagger recalled contesting the 2023 House of Representatives election on the platform of the Allied People’s Movement (APM). Following the presidential and National Assembly elections, he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he later served as Special Assistant on Mobilisation to the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin. According to him, politics has provided another platform to connect with the people and contribute to societal development, just as broadcasting gave him the opportunity to inform, educate and entertain. He maintained that his passion remains youth empowerment, talent development and creating business opportunities through media and entertainment, adding that he would continue to support initiatives that improve lives and strengthen grassroots participation in governance. MC Swagger noted that his transition from the airwaves to politics was driven by a desire to make a greater impact, expressing confidence that his experience in media, leadership and public service would continue to guide his contributions to society.
