The political atmosphere in Oyo State witnessed fresh developments on Thursday as the camp loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, announced that it had taken possession of the party’s secretariat at Molete, Ibadan. In a statement issued by the Gbolarumi Campaign Organisation, the group described the development as a major turning point in the state’s political landscape, insisting that the Molete secretariat had been recovered from what it called the “illegal control” of Governor Seyi Makinde and his loyalists. The organisation alleged that Governor Makinde, having aligned with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), no longer had any legitimate claim over the PDP’s assets in the state, maintaining that the recovery of the secretariat symbolised the return of what it described as the “authentic PDP.” According to the statement, the successful takeover of the party’s headquarters has strengthened the campaign’s preparations ahead of the 2027 governorship election. The group further disclosed that it had concluded plans to commence an extensive grassroots mobilisation campaign across all the 33 local government areas of Oyo State, expressing confidence that the move would reposition the party for victory at the polls. Describing the development as the beginning of a new political chapter, the campaign organisation declared that it was fully prepared for what it termed the battle for the soul of Oyo State. “The authentic PDP is back home. Our structures are intact, our strategies are in place, and we are ready to take our message to every community across the state,” the statement added. The development is expected to heighten political activities within the PDP in Oyo State as stakeholders continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
