The political atmosphere in Ogun State reached a fever pitch on Monday as former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo officially returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), leveling stinging accusations of betrayal against the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership.

The return of the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo comes exactly one week after she tenderd her resignation from the ruling party, marking a dramatic end to her brief stint with the APC. Her reception at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta during the unveiling of the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Alhaja Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, was marked by an outpouring of support from party loyalists who welcomed her back into the fold.

Addressing the crowd, the former health commissioner did not mince words regarding the circumstances surrounding her departure from the ruling party. She painted a picture of a toxic environment characterized by systemic rejection and a deliberate lack of respect for her contributions.

”I actually have a lot to say, there are many people that we shall call out,” she declared, hinting at a forthcoming explosive tell-all during her formal declaration ceremony. Her tone made it clear that her exit from the APC was not merely a strategic move, but a necessary reaction to what she termed “maltreatment” by party powerbrokers.

The homecoming is being viewed by political analysts as a massive morale booster for the PDP, particularly for the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu. Senator Obasanjo openly rallied behind Adebutu, endorsing his long-standing bid for the governorship and asserting that her support would be the catalyst for the party’s triumph in the 2027 polls.

”I want to thank our incoming governor from 2027, Hon Oladipupo Adebutu, because he has really tried to become the governor of the state for the first, second and third time. But this time, God is saying that he will be our next governor now that I am joining the party,” she stated confidently.

The APC, which is currently reeling from her resignation, now faces the prospect of a high-profile defector actively working to dismantle its influence in the state. As the countdown to the 2027 election begins, Senator Obasanjo’s promise to “call out” those who wronged her suggests that the political drama in Ogun State is only just beginning.
