The Federal Government is set to establish a definitive national roadmap for a comprehensive school safety regulatory framework, signaling a massive shift from passive observation to active safeguarding in Nigeria’s primary and secondary institutions. Fully aligned with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda for educational transformation and social security, the strategic intervention targets the protection of Nigeria’s human capital at its foundational root: its children. The upcoming edition of the Renewed Hope Agenda Educational Webinar Series will introduce the National Comprehensive School Safety Steering Framework. Positioned as a catalyst for institutional overhaul, the initiative addresses a fundamental, sobering truth: effective teaching and learning cannot happen in an atmosphere of fear, making school safety an urgent national priority alongside curriculum updates and teacher welfare. The initiative is structured around comprehensive core strategies designed to deliver actionable, scalable, and low-cost solutions across all 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Central to this approach is the Renewed Hope Safety Mandate, which seeks to anchor comprehensive Safe Schools guidelines directly into national educational policies to guarantee standardized learning environments nationwide. To ensure strict compliance, the government plans to deploy a unified National School Safety Scorecard and inspection protocol. This data-driven auditing tool will independently evaluate physical, digital, and human safeguarding parameters in both public and private institutions. Schools failing to meet these strict benchmarks will face immediate remedial actions via specialized compliance tracking mechanisms. Crucially, the framework introduces the Parent-Community Accountability Loop, which structures Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) as legally recognized oversight organs. Parents will be equipped with multi-point safety audit checklists to evaluate school vulnerabilities in recruitment, infrastructure, and child protection, shifting their role from bystanders to active stakeholders who can confidently demand transparency from school administrators. Beyond high-level policy, the roadmap emphasizes local capacity building through a National Train-the-Trainer framework. This system is designed to supply school proprietors, security personnel, and education secretaries with standardized skill sets covering safe recruitment practices, child protection protocols, and crisis management. Furthermore, community mobilization strategies will be deployed to educate host communities, teachers, and traditional leaders on their specific safeguarding roles. To ensure rapid mitigation during crises, the framework integrates low-cost technological solutions, digital risk mapping, and a Tripartite Alliance designed to streamline emergency communication and data-sharing paths between schools, law enforcement, and local host communities. Guiding this critical national conversation is Dr. Bisi Akin-Alabi, an esteemed administrator and elite policy architect who brings over 30 years of global institutional safeguarding experience spanning the United Kingdom and Nigeria. As the Lead Resource for Safe School Lagos and the former Special Adviser on Education, Science, and Technology to the Oyo State Government, Dr. Akin-Alabi pioneered the transformative OYOMESI framework. Her decades-long crusade for educational development has garnered significant local and international acclaim. In October 2025, she received the prestigious City People Female Achievers Award for Excellence in School Safety, following her decoration as a Universal Peace Federation Ambassador for Peace in the UK in January 2025, and the Nigerian-British Merits Award in December 2024. Dr. Akin-Alabi’s administrative pedigree traces back 25 years to March 2001, when her excellence in childcare and education earned formal recognition from the British Government, culminating in an invitation to an exclusive dinner at 10 Downing Street by the then British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and his wife, Cherie Blair. The webinar will culminate in an interactive Q&A session, providing an open forum for government officials, school proprietors, civil society organizations, and parents worldwide to cross-examine these policy frameworks and propose localized security solutions. Organizers welcome participation from all Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, alongside global education stakeholders, to join this vital conversation aimed at securing a future where every Nigerian child can learn, grow, and fulfill their potential without fear.
