A former Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, Fatai Owoseni, has officially withdrawn from the Accord Party gubernatorial primaries scheduled to hold on Tuesday.

Owoseni, a retired Commissioner of Police, pulled out of the race citing a total lack of confidence in the primary election process.

Sources close to the party’s national leadership in Abuja revealed that the retired security chief raised serious concerns regarding the alleged deployment of violence and the infiltration of the party structures by external political forces within Oyo State.

It was learned that Owoseni informed the National Chairman of the Accord Party of his final decision on Monday night, turning down all appeals and entreaties from the party hierarchy to reconsider his stance.

Despite assurances from the national chairman that a level playing field would be provided for all aspirants, Owoseni insisted he would not participate in a compromised exercise.

“I am not desperate to contest,” a source quoted Owoseni as saying during the tense meeting with party stakeholders. He reportedly added that his primary goal remains rendering service to the good people of Oyo State, whether he is governor or not.

Meanwhile, there are strong indications that the Accord National Executive Committee, which arrived in Ibadan ahead of the primaries, may declare Oriyomi as the consensus gubernatorial candidate of the party following Owoseni’s sudden exit from the race.
