The political landscape of Jigawa State was thrown into deep mourning on Monday following the harrowing discovery that a former member of the House of Representatives and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Honourable Abba Anas Adamu, died in the custody of his abductors. In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the kidnappers reportedly handed over the lifeless body of the former lawmaker to his family members shortly after collecting a N50 million ransom intended to secure his safe return alongside a fellow politician, Ali Tukur Gantsa. The victims were intercepted by gunmen last Wednesday while traveling from Kano to Abuja for an ADC national congress. It was gathered that the kidnappers initially demanded a staggering N200 million, which was eventually negotiated down to N50 million. However, the grueling conditions of the forest and the deprivation of essential healthcare proved fatal for Adamu, who was known to manage chronic health conditions, including asthma and hypertension. Insiders revealed that the late lawmaker had been without his inhaler and blood pressure medications throughout the duration of his captivity. Despite efforts by his colleague, Ali Gantsa, to offer support during the ordeal, Adamu’s health rapidly deteriorated under the extreme stress and physical toll of the abduction. The kidnappers allegedly kept the news of his passing secret during the final stages of the ransom delivery to ensure the full payment was made. The grim reality was only revealed when Adamu’s son and driver arrived at the designated drop-off point in the Jere axis to deliver the cash. While Gantsa was released to the family, the gunmen led the deceased’s son to a shallow location in the bush where his father’s remains had been abandoned. The body is currently being conveyed to Kano for burial rites, leaving the ADC and political associates in a state of shock over the loss of a man widely described as a politician of integrity and compassion.
