A former Commissioner of Police and security expert, Fatai Owoseni, officially entered the Oyo State governorship race on Saturday, picking up his expression of interest and nomination forms at the Accord party secretariat. While the move signals his clear intent to contest the 2027 polls, Owoseni emphasized that his immediate priority is the institutional health and growth of the party. He told party faithful that his entry into the race is not a move to contend with popular broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat, but a mission to strengthen the platform and ensure it is positioned as a formidable alternative for the people. Addressing the leadership and supporters, Owoseni made it clear that he did not join the race to create divisions or struggle for leadership. Instead, he described his mission as one of value addition, focusing on reorganization and party supremacy. “My focus is to make the party better,” Owoseni declared. “We are here to reorganize the union so we can say that even if there is trouble elsewhere, there is a platform whose voice can rise again. Accord is our problem-solver, and we are here to ensure it is positioned to win.” Owoseni’s address focused heavily on the “quality” of the party over the “quantity” of the crowd. He argued that by strengthening the internal structure of Accord, the party would be better prepared to manage the governance of the state and provide authentic representation in the National and State Assemblies. He reiterated his commitment to “Omoluabi” (virtuous) politics, asserting that a better-organized party will naturally lead to a more secure and prosperous Oyo State. He urged members to remain united, stating that his goal is to help the party capture the hearts of the electorate through integrity rather than coercion. The visit marks a significant turning point for the Accord party in Oyo State, as Owoseni’s “party-first” approach aims to solidify the platform’s grassroots base ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
