The Senator representing the district, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, formally declared her intention to seek re-election in 2027, ending months of intense speculation and grassroots clamour.

The lawmaker made the high-profile announcement during a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Stakeholders’ Meeting, where she revealed that her decision was the result of extensive consultations with her family, constituents, and party leadership across the five local government areas of the district.

“After due consultations and encouragement from my husband, I have accepted your calls to re-contest for a second term as your senator,” she declared to a thunderous ovation from party stalwarts.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who has carved a niche for herself as a vocal advocate for industrialization and grassroots empowerment, used the platform to issue a rallying cry for party cohesion. Addressing the internal dynamics of the PDP, she stressed that victory in the 2027 polls would depend on the party’s ability to reconcile aggrieved members and present a united front.

“This is the time to bring everyone back home. We must reconcile with those who may have had one issue or another, for the betterment of our party and the success of our elections ahead,” the lawmaker urged.

The declaration received immediate backing from the PDP Kogi Central Zonal Chairman, Hon. Anthony Akuvada, who hailed the Senator’s first-term performance as “transformational.” According to Akuvada, the lawmaker has redefined representation in the district through strategic interventions in education and infrastructure.

The Senator also took a moment to pay tribute to her husband, High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Otuoze Uduaghan, whom she described as her “greatest pillar of strength” and “steadfast support system” throughout her political journey.

As the first woman from the district to hold the seat, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s re-election bid is expected to be a focal point of the 2027 contest in Kogi State, especially as the PDP seeks to solidify its hold on the central senatorial district amidst shifting political alliances.
