Vocal powerhouse and veteran singer, Omawumi, has waded into the heated debate surrounding transactional relationships, arguing that the exchange of value in romance is as old as time and only the currency has changed.

Speaking in a recent interview with Pulse, the ‘Bottom Belle’ crooner challenged the narrative that modern love has become uniquely commercialized. She posited that women have been demanding since the beginning of time, though she admitted that the cost of entry has shifted significantly from simple gestures to high-end luxury items.

The singer reflected on the generational gap in dating costs, noting that during her youth, a suitor could successfully impress a crush with minor treats like ice cream and popcorn. However, she pointed out that modernization and inflation have fundamentally altered these expectations, with expensive gadgets like iPhones now serving as the standard “transactional” benchmark for many.

Omawumi further addressed the common complaints from men regarding the financial demands of modern women. She suggested that many men who find themselves overwhelmed by the transactional nature of their relationships often put themselves in that position by pursuing women whose tastes and lifestyles far exceed their financial capacity.

In her concluding remarks, the music star noted that society frequently amplifies the financial demands made by women while ignoring the ways they reciprocate within the relationship. According to her, love remains a balance of exchange, and the current outcry often stems from men dating outside their financial “league” rather than a fundamental change in how love works.
