I’m Still Trekking: Papa Ajasco Debunks N20m, Car Gift Rumours

Veteran Nollywood comedian, Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known as Papa Ajasco, has broken his silence to dispel swirling reports that he received a luxurious car and a massive $25,000 cash gift following a recent viral appeal.

Speaking in a candid interview with media personality Daddy Freeze on Tuesday, the legendary entertainer clarified that despite the public perception of his newfound wealth, he remains a commuter on public transport. Ayoyinka revealed that the total donations received from well-meaning Nigerians amounted to approximately six million naira, largely comprised of small contributions from ordinary citizens rather than a single lump sum from a high-net-worth donor.

The actor, who has recently adopted the moniker “Bondu Alaska,” expressed dismay over the misinformation, noting that curious neighbors and fans had even visited his residence specifically to catch a glimpse of the non-existent vehicle. He addressed claims made by industry veteran Wale Adenuga regarding his previous car ownership, explaining that the Mercedes-Benz often cited was an old model purchased years ago that has since been disposed of.

The controversy also touched on allegations of ingratitude leveled against him by content creator Lucky Udu, whose initial interview brought Ayoyinka’s plight back into the national spotlight. The veteran actor maintained his innocence, stating that he remains profoundly grateful to Udu for reviving his public visibility. He explained that his recent attempts to reach out to the influencer have gone unacknowledged, leading to a breakdown in communication that fueled the public spat.

While the news of his continued struggle has ignited debate among netizens regarding royalties and financial planning for veteran actors, Ayoyinka emphasized his gratitude for the N6 million raised, noting it has provided him a “new beginning” even as he continues to navigate the streets of Lagos on foot. He concluded by promising his fans that he would not disappoint them under his new professional identity.
