The race for the 2027 general elections has officially kicked off within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party high command released its comprehensive schedule of activities, sending a clear message about the financial muscle required to secure its tickets. In a document titled “Schedule of Activities and Timetable for the 2027 General Elections,” signed by the National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Arugungu, and released on Saturday, April 11, 2026, the party fixed the cost of the Presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at a non-negotiable N100 million. The price tag for governorship aspirants across the 36 states was set at N50 million, while those eyeing seats in the Senate and House of Representatives will pay N20 million and N10 million respectively. State House of Assembly aspirants are expected to cough up N5 million. According to the timeline, which has been structured to align with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines, the APC has adopted the direct primary mode of election for all positions. This means the party’s flagbearers will be chosen by the card-carrying members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The party’s special convention for the presidential primaries is scheduled to take place between Thursday, May 28, and Friday, May 29, 2026. The sale of forms is expected to commence at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Saturday, April 25, and will run until May 2, 2026. Following the submission of forms, the screening of presidential aspirants is slated for May 23, 2026, with the results expected to be published the following day. For other elective positions, the primary elections will begin with the State Houses of Assembly on May 16, followed by the governorship primaries on May 18, and the National Assembly contests between May 20 and May 22. With this early release of its timetable, the APC has taken the lead in the political space, effectively ending speculations and setting the stage for a high-stakes internal contest ahead of the 2027 polls.
