Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), of bypassing legal due process to facilitate the incarceration of tech businessman Linus Williams, also known as Blord.

Sowore made these remarks on Wednesday after visiting Blord at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, where the billionaire is currently remanded. The activist alleged that the judicial process leading to the detention was a “charade” orchestrated through a collaboration between VDM, the police, and the judiciary.

Sowore insisted that while the law must take its course regarding any criminal allegations, the methods used in this specific case were irregular. He claimed that the legal system was manipulated to ensure Blord was sent to prison without adhering to the standard protections of the law.

“I will not allow VeryDarkMan to oppress him. Due process was not followed in this case. VDM, the judge, and the police used the back door to send Blord to jail,” Sowore stated to reporters outside the facility.

The activist highlighted the irony of the situation, pointing out that he had defended VDM on two separate occasions when the critic faced similar high-handed tactics from security agencies. Sowore expressed disappointment that VDM is now allegedly employing the same “oppressive” strategies against others.

Despite reportedly receiving insults from VDM for his intervention, Sowore maintained that his stance is rooted in constitutional principles rather than personal sentiment. He noted that the rule of law should not be sacrificed for personal vendettas or public clamor.

The legal battle between the two figures intensified recently after a petition led to Blord’s arraignment on charges involving cybercrime and identity theft. Following the court proceedings, Blord was remanded in custody for 26 days.

Sowore concluded his visit by demanding the immediate release of the businessman, asserting that any detention lacking strict adherence to the law is invalid. There has been no official response from VDM or the Nigerian Police regarding Sowore’s claims of procedural manipulation.
