OSOGBO – The Independent National Electoral Commission has intensified its grassroots offensive ahead of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, forming a formidable “triple-threat” alliance with security agencies and transport unions to eliminate electoral fraud. During a high-stakes stakeholders’ engagement held across Osogbo, Ede North, and Ede South local government areas on Wednesday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, declared that the era of “miracle results” is over. He warned that the commission has established a legal firewall that will see any official involved in result-tampering heading straight to prison. In a move to enforce internal accountability, Dr. Agboke revealed that all ad-hoc staff, including presiding and collation officers, must sign a mandatory affidavit of commitment to service before deployment. This legal instrument ensures that any discrepancy in the final figures can be traced directly to the specific official responsible, leading to immediate arrest and prosecution. Addressing the National Union of Road Transport Workers, the REC issued a stern warning against partisan interference, stating that while the union remains a key logistics partner, its members must strictly adhere to the neutrality pact. To bolster this, a dedicated Situation Room will be established on election day to monitor compliance and ensure that the movement of sensitive materials remains untainted by political influence. Reiterating that “nobody will win without the votes of the people,” Dr. Agboke dismissed claims of predetermined outcomes, insisting that the commission’s decentralized consultations are designed to return power to the grassroots. He noted that the special nature of the Osun polls requires a united front to prevent the subversion of the democratic process. Reinforcing this stance, security agencies at the forum identified potential “red zones” in Ede North and other areas prone to overcrowding and thuggery, promising targeted interventions to sanitize the environment before and during the polls. The commission maintained that despite the challenge of misinformation, its roadmap for a credible Osun 2026 remains unshakable, as it seeks to deliver an election that reflects only the authentic will of the electorate.
