In a video that has quickly gone viral, Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has hit back at Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, over his recent comments regarding political activities in the Southwest.

The controversy began after a clip surfaced of Sunday Igboho allegedly declaring that no political party, other than the one supported by the current administration, would be allowed to campaign in “Yoruba land.”

Fayose, known for his blunt social media commentary, did not hold back. He questioned whether Igboho’s time in exile—following his escape from Nigeria in 2021—had taught him anything about democratic values.

“I thought you just got back from exile? You just got back from Europe and you see how things work in Europe,” Fayose said in the video. “So, all the things you learned there, you lost them completely? Don’t be like that, Mr. Igboho.”

Using a popular Yoruba proverb, “Oba mewa, igba mewa” (Ten kings, ten eras), Fayose reminded the activist that political power is transient. He pointed out that while former President Buhari’s administration chased Igboho into exile, the current administration of President Tinubu allowed for his return—but warned that the future is never guaranteed.

Fayose argued that threatening to block other parties from campaigning is a move toward a “one-party state” and is fundamentally undemocratic.

In a particularly stinging part of the video, Fayose mocked Igboho’s past “tough guy” reputation, referencing the 2021 DSS raid on his Ibadan residence.

“If you were that powerful, when DSS came to your house, why did you turn to a cat?” Fayose asked, referencing the viral myth that Igboho used metaphysical powers to escape. “If you were really powerful, you would have waited for the DSS.”

Fayose concluded by suggesting that Igboho is out of touch with the current economic reality of Nigerians, particularly regarding the high cost of living. “It’s like where you are buying your petrol is different from where others are buying petrol,” he joked, implying that most citizens are unhappy with the current state of the nation regardless of ethnicity.
