‘Jesus, Where Are You?’: Gospel Singer Judikay Weeps Over Sixth Miscarriage

Celebrated Nigerian gospel mininstrel, Judith Kanayo-Opara, popularly known as Judikay, has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and Christendom alike after opening up about her harrowing battle with recurrent pregnancy loss.

In a deeply emotional video shared via her Instagram page on Thursday, the “More Than Gold” crooner revealed the agonizing details of her sixth miscarriage, which occurred in February 2025.

The singer, known for her soul-stirring worship, confessed that the experience nearly “crushed” her spirit, especially as the pregnancy had already crossed the critical three-month milestone.

Narrating the sequence of events, Judikay described how a seemingly normal day turned into a nightmare of physical pain and spiritual questioning.

“I was pregnant for well over three months. I started to experience cramps and thought it was just one of those things. Then came the trickles of blood—I told myself it was just ‘spotting’,” she recounted.

However, the situation escalated quickly when she visited the washroom. “What I thought should be urine was blood. It did not stop; it kept flowing. I was devastated because I understood what that meant automatically. This baby that I lost… marks the sixth one.”

The worship leader was rushed to the hospital where medical personnel confirmed a “missed miscarriage.” She subsequently underwent a Dilation and Curettage (D&C) procedure to remove the remains of the fetus.

Reflecting on the trauma of the surgery and its aftermath, she said: “I had cried and shouted whilst they broke the baby and brought the pieces. When I returned home, I thought I was okay. To everyone who asked, I would say ‘God gets the glory.’ But in the silence of the night, I would experience a pain I could not express. I would wail and say, ‘Jesus, where are you?’”

Despite the repetitive nature of her loss, the singer, who wedded her husband Anselem Opara in 2020 and welcomed their first child in 2022, emphasized the importance of being vulnerable about grief even as a person of faith.

Her testimony has triggered a massive outpouring of support from colleagues in the EeZee Conceptz label and fans across the globe, many of whom are hailing her courage for speaking out on a topic often shrouded in silence within the Nigerian church.
