Prince Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has described President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a “historic disaster,” warning that the President is already laying the groundwork to personalize power ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in an explosive session on The Mic On Podcast, the SDP chieftain cautioned Nigerians that “collecting back power” from the current administration will be an uphill task due to what he termed as “institutional capture.”

Prince Adebayo, who has been a vocal critic of the APC-led government, claimed that there is a side to the President that many Nigerians are yet to fully grasp. According to him, while the President is strategically brilliant, that brilliance is being channeled into weakening accountability mechanisms rather than fixing the economy.

“Nigeria has entered the wrong hands,” the caption of the viral podcast segment read, echoing Adebayo’s sentiment that the current leadership is more interested in “international business” deals than in the welfare of the masses.

The legal practitioner turned politician alleged that the ongoing discussions around electoral reforms are merely a “smokescreen” for a rigging blueprint. He argued that the National Assembly has “surrendered its sovereignty” to the whims of the executive, passing laws that favor the ruling party’s stay in power.

“The opposition being ready is a given. What is more important is whether the people are ready to stop being hypocritical. You cannot say you want change and then align with the same people who created the problem.” — Prince Adebayo.

On the issue of rising violence across the country, Adebayo accused the government of being “dangerously reactive.” He alleged that insecurity in Nigeria has been turned into a “program” for looting.

He questioned why security agencies, with all their technology, cannot track kidnappers who communicate freely with victims’ families. “They use insecurity as an excuse to siphon money while the bandits are already long gone by the time the army arrives,” he stated.

Adebayo maintained that he is “ready today” to take over the Villa and deliver better results, describing himself as better prepared and surrounded by a clearer vision than the current administration. He urged Nigerians to ensure that no member of the current National Assembly returns in 2027, accusing them of failing in their constitutional duties.
