Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has stirred a fresh political storm after openly declaring his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid and floating a controversial “third-term” agenda.

In a viral video obtained by gistlife on Sunday, the activist warned opposition figures, specifically naming Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic People (PDP), to steer clear of the Southwest region during the 2027 electioneering period.

Igboho, who has been a vocal figure in regional politics, insisted that the Southwest is a “no-go area” for any candidate challenging the incumbent President.

In the clip, he was heard saying: “Tinubu for 2nd term, don’t bring any [other candidate], and when he finishes 2nd term, we will attempt 3rd term and more. Don’t bring your stupid Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to Southwest.”

The activist’s remarks have since triggered a wave of reactions across social media, with many Nigerians questioning the legality of a “third term” under the 1999 Constitution, which strictly limits the presidency to two terms of four years each.

While some of his supporters hailed the move as a show of regional loyalty, critics have slammed the statement as “undemocratic” and “incendiary,” noting that it could incite political violence and hinder a level playing field for the 2027 polls.

The development comes on the heels of several high-profile political shifts, including the recent defection of Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, to the APC and Peter Obi’s recent vow that “no one can stop” his 2027 ambitions despite alleged threats to his life.

As of the time of this report, the presidency and the leading opposition parties are yet to officially react to Igboho’s claims.
