The 2027 governorship race in Oyo State gained significant momentum on Monday as the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, formally declared his intention to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde. Adeniran, who also serves as the Secretary of the National Forum of SUBEB Chairmen, made the declaration under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), promising to consolidate the milestones of the current administration. In a statement made available to newsmen, the OYOSUBEB boss noted that his decision to join the race followed “extensive consultations, deep reflection, and prayers.” Speaking on his motivation, Adeniran, a seasoned public servant with experience as a former Local Government Chairman and Commissioner, stated that his aspiration is rooted in service rather than a quest for power. ”I am offering myself to serve as Governor of Oyo State, not out of ambition but out of conviction; not for power, but for purpose; not to be celebrated, but to empower,” he said. He emphasized that his intimate knowledge of the state’s 33 Local Government Areas and his roles at both state and federal levels have equipped him with the requisite experience to steer the pace-setter state effectively. A major highlight of Adeniran’s declaration was his commitment to Governor Seyi Makinde’s ‘Omituntun’ roadmap. He insisted that for the state to witness sustainable progress, the gains recorded in infrastructure, security, and social development must be preserved. ”I am stepping forward to consolidate the good works of Governor Seyi Makinde, my leader and principal. Continuity is the foundation of sustainable progress, and Oyo State deserves nothing less,” Adeniran added. The governorship hopeful outlined a vision centered on quality education, youth empowerment, and a robust civil service. He pledged to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive while ensuring that the civil service remains a professional backbone of the government. He urged the people of Oyo State—including artisans, civil servants, and students—to support his vision, expressing optimism that the legacy of excellence currently being built would be elevated under his watch.
