Tension is reaching a boiling point in Anambra State as residents, weary of persistent darkness and “outrageous” estimated billing, prepare for a massive showdown.

The planned protest, titled “Enough Is Enough,” is being spearheaded by the Electricity Consumers’ Network, led by prominent activist Osita Obi. The group is demanding an immediate end to what they describe as the “metering monopoly” and erratic supply provided by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

In a move to prevent a breakdown of law and order, the Anambra State Police Command called an emergency meeting with the organizers in Awka on Monday, March 9, 2026.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Ibrahim Ezekiel, acknowledged that the grievances—ranging from total system collapses to “overestimated” bills—are real. However, he warned that a street protest right now could be a recipe for disaster.

“The Command emphasizes the importance of peaceful and lawful channels,” stated SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer. “We encourage stakeholders to pursue institutional means rather than resorting to protests that could disrupt public order.”

Organizers like Osita Obi aren’t easily swayed. They argue that the EEDC has become a “judge in its own cause” by controlling both the supply of electricity and the provision of meters.

While the Police are suing for peace and encouraging “constructive dialogue” with electricity regulators, the atmosphere remains charged. Just yesterday, some communities in the state took their fight to the Federal High Court, demanding ₦10 million in damages for being kept in a blackout.

The million-naira question remains: Will a meeting with the Police be enough to stop the “Enough Is Enough” march, or is Anambra headed for a major street protest?
