LAGOS — The Federal Government has officially waded into the firestorm surrounding Nigerian songstress Simi and her mother’s daycare center.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) announced on Wednesday that it is launching an investigation into swirling allegations of child sexual abuse and misconduct linked to the facility.

The controversy ignited after a TikTok user, identified as Mirabel, leveled grave accusations of rape and misconduct. The situation took a digital turn when internet sleuths unearthed Simi’s old posts on X (formerly Twitter) regarding her experiences with children at her mother’s daycare.

While the singer originally posted those tweets years ago—often in the context of broader conversations about the “rape culture” in Nigeria—netizens began recirculating them, claiming they suggested “inappropriate intent.”

Responding to a massive wave of tags and reports from concerned Nigerians, NAPTIP took to its official social media channels to assure the public of a thorough investigation.
