ABUJA — In a high-stakes debut that signaled a new dawn for Nigerian law enforcement, the newly sworn-in Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, has declared an immediate end to the “era of impunity” within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Speaking to State House correspondents on Wednesday shortly after his official swearing-in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a visibly moved Disu promised a radical shift in how the police interact with the public.

The ceremony took an unexpectedly personal turn when President Tinubu recounted the Acting IGP’s career milestones. Disu confessed that the President’s detailed knowledge of his past successes nearly moved him to tears.

“The way the President was mentioning a lot of activities about me, mentioning areas I have worked, mentioning successes I’ve recorded as a policeman… it brought emotion to me, almost brought me to tears,” Disu admitted.

Disu’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s security architecture. With the President’s personal endorsement ringing in his ears, the Acting IGP faces the immediate challenge of tackling kidnapping, banditry, and internal discipline within the ranks.
