ABUJA — A fierce standoff between truck drivers and security operatives has brought the Federal Capital Territory’s busiest eastern gateway to a screeching halt.

The Abuja-Keffi Expressway transitioned from a bustling highway to a sprawling parking lot early today after a confrontation between a high-profile VIP convoy and a truck driver spiraled into a full-blown blockade.

The chaos reportedly began when security personnel attached to a VIP convoy confronted a truck driver for allegedly failing to yield the road. Eyewitness accounts suggest the encounter turned violent, with claims that the driver was assaulted and whisked away by security operatives.

In a show of solidarity, fellow truck drivers mobilized instantly, using their massive rigs to form an impenetrable barrier across both the inbound and outbound lanes near the Mararaba axis.

“It’s a complete standstill. The drivers are adamant—they say no movement until their colleague is released and his dignity is restored. We are just caught in the crossfire of another VIP-citizen clash,” says a stranded civil servant.

As of this report, the atmosphere remains tense. While security forces have arrived at the scene, their presence has yet to break the resolve of the protesting truckers. There has been no official statement from the police or the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) regarding the arrest or the status of the highway.

Motorists are advised to avoid the route entirely and seek alternative paths through Karu-Jikwoyi-Ara or wait for official clearance.
