The 30-year-old woman, Abigail Adebayo, reportedly ingested a lethal insecticide after her fiancé’s family rejected their marriage plans upon discovering she had children from a previous relationship. Tears and disbelief have enveloped the Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State following the tragic news of a 30-year-old woman, Abigail Adebayo, who allegedly committed suicide after her dream of a new home was shattered by her fiancé’s family. Abigail, a mother of three, was found dead in her room after she reportedly ingested Sniper, a popular insecticide, in despair over the sudden collapse of her marriage plans. According to investigations by Tribune Online, Abigail’s journey to the altar began in September 2025, when she started a relationship with one Oniga Abiola. The duo was said to be deeply in love and had made firm commitments to spend the rest of their lives together. However, the tide turned two weeks ago when Abiola took her to his family home to formally introduce her to his mother. The atmosphere reportedly soured when the fiancé’s family discovered that Abigail was already a mother of three from a previous relationship. Citing her past as a “deal-breaker,” the family flatly disapproved of the union, leaving Abigail devastated. Driven to the edge by the rejection and the looming end of her relationship, Abigail was discovered motionless in her apartment. It was alleged that she sought an escape from her emotional turmoil by consuming the poisonous substance. The fiancé, Abiola, was said to have discovered her body and immediately alerted the Atan Ijebu Division of the Ogun State Police Command. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, while confirming the incident on Tuesday, described the situation as an unfortunate tragedy. He noted that Abigail was rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, by those who found her, but medical personnel on duty confirmed her dead on arrival. “On Thursday, February 12, 2026, it was reported that one Abigail Adebayo, 30, allegedly ingested Sniper insecticide following a family disagreement over their intended marriage. Detectives visited the scene and the hospital; photographs were taken, and no visible marks of violence were found on the body,” Babaseyi stated. While the preliminary evidence points to suicide, the police spokesperson assured that a thorough investigation has been launched to uncover any further details surrounding the death. As of the time of this report, Abigail’s body has been deposited at the morgue. The incident has sparked heated debates on social media regarding the cultural pressures placed on single mothers seeking a second chance at love and marriage.
