IBADAN – In a strategic move to overhaul public sanitation habits and reinforce environmental sustainability, the Oyo State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, has launched a high-level partnership with leading media organizations in the state.

On Tuesday, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, led a delegation of senior ministry officials on a series of courtesy visits to prominent indigenous radio stations in Ibadan. The initiative is part of a renewed roadmap designed to position the media as key stakeholders in amplifying the state’s environmental policies and ensuring they resonate within every

Speaking during the tour, Hon. Aderinto emphasized that the vision of a “Cleaner and Greener Oyo State” cannot be realized by government effort alone. He described the media as a “formidable instrument” for public enlightenment and a vital partner in fostering behavioral change.

“Maintaining a clean Oyo State requires the active support of the media,” the Commissioner stated. “We are committed to a communication-driven strategy that moves beyond simple regulation to encouraging genuine civic responsibility and responsible waste disposal among our residents.”

The delegation’s first port of call was 32FM, where they were received by the General Manager, Mr. Peter Omoh. Reaffirming the station’s commitment to social impact, Mr. Omoh assured the Commissioner of the station’s readiness to partner with the Ministry. He pledged that 32FM would provide a platform for initiatives aimed at ensuring a safe, healthy, and habitable environment for all.

The Ministry officials also visited the Chairman of Fresh FM Nigeria, the renowned Dr. Yinka Ayefele (MON). The visit underscored the importance of leveraging the station’s massive reach to drive environmental advocacy across the state’s various socio-economic demographics.

This media-centric approach follows the Ministry’s recent intensified efforts to curb environmental infractions, including 24-hour surveillance to stop illegal scavenging and the sealing of facilities contributing to air pollution. By partnering with the media, the Oyo State Government aims to shift the narrative from enforcement to education, ensuring that every citizen becomes a voluntary guardian of their environment.
