Nollywood firebrand and “Queen Mother,” Iyabo Ojo, has hit back at critics accusing her of selling out to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following her recent promotional video of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).

The actress, known for her vocal stance during the 2023 elections, found herself in the eye of a digital storm after she shared a sleek video praising the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for upgrades at the Lagos terminal. The post immediately triggered a wave of “She’s now working for them” comments across social media.

In a lengthy and defiant Instagram post, Iyabo clarified that her praise for the airport wasn’t a “paid gig” or a political pivot. According to her, FAAN officials simply reached out after seeing her notice the improvements.

“FAAN approached me: ‘You’ve seen the changes. Please help us spread the word.’ So I did. For free. No fee. No contract. Just love for Nigeria,” she stated.

The mother of two emphasized that if she were to charge her usual influencer rates, the bill would be far higher than what a “government PR” budget would likely cover.

Addressing the “Obidients” and critics who felt betrayed, Iyabo insisted that her loyalty remains with the country, not any specific political umbrella. She argued that criticizing bad governance also requires acknowledging progress when it happens.

The reaction to her clarification has been a mixed bag of applause and skepticism:

Comedian Princess and other fans hailed her for her transparency, with one user noting, “The fight is for the love of the nation… if there’s improvement, say it loudly.”

Some users remain unconvinced, suggesting that high-profile “voluntary” endorsements are often the first step toward official political appointments.

Unapologetic as ever, Iyabo Ojo concluded that she remains a “Queen Mother” who isn’t afraid to speak her truth—whether she’s dragging the system or cheering it on.
