While the skies of Ibadan were filled with aerobatic displays to celebrate Oyo State’s 50th Anniversary, the opposition is calling it a “financial disaster.” The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially accused Governor Seyi Makinde of blowing a staggering N2.9 billion on the festivities. In a scathing statement by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare, the APC didn’t just throw numbers—they brought receipts. The APC claims the funding for the 10-day “Golden Jubilee” didn’t just come from the state’s main account. According to the party: N90 Million was allegedly deducted from the federal allocation of each of the 33 local government councils. An “undisclosed amount” was also taken from the state coffers. The total, the APC argues, exceeds N3 billion when everything is added up. The opposition party didn’t hold back on critiquing the events, labeling the celebration a “one-man show.” They questioned the value of the 10-day lineup. While the Governor hasn’t addressed the N2.9bn figure directly, he maintained during the grand finale that the anniversary was about “the state,” not any political party. He described the celebration as a tribute to 50 years of resilience and a “renewed promise to future generations.” Post navigation N19.7M Fraud: Former Federal Varsity VC Dragged to Court Over Contract Bribes Govt Seizes Chemically Ripened Fruits in Oyo Market, Issues Health Warning
