The vibrant lights of Nollywood have grown dim today following the tragic passing of popular Yoruba actress, Ajara Lasisi, affectionately known by fans as Aunty Ajara.

The news was confirmed on Thursday morning, February 5, 2026, by filmmaker Tobi Oladele Teemony (Tee Mony) and the actress’s elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi. According to reports, the actress died overnight after her health took a critical turn.

Aunty Ajara’s health challenges became public knowledge about a week ago when top stars like Ronke Oshodi Oke, Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, and Afeez Owo launched a massive social media appeal for funds. It was revealed that the actress was battling a severe liver-related ailment while also being pregnant—a combination that left her on oxygen and in a critical state.

In a heartbreaking video shared by Tee Mony, Ridwan Lasisi officially announced:

“The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on. We appreciate the industry and everyone who stood by us. At this point, we appeal to the public to stop sending donations. The one we were contributing for is no more.”

The news has sent shockwaves through the industry. Known for her “steeze” and vibrant energy at movie premieres (notably at Wumi Toriola’s Queen Lateefah premiere), Ajara was a beloved figure on the small screen.

Colleagues who had spent the last week begging for “one more miracle” for her are now sharing tributes, with many expressing deep sadness that despite raising millions of Naira for her treatment, the star could not be saved.

The family has made a final plea to the public to stop all financial contributions to the bank accounts previously shared. They expressed their profound gratitude to Nigerians worldwide who sent love, prayers, and money to help her “keep fighting” until the very end.

Ajara Lasisi’s remains have been deposited at the state hospital morgue in Ikare-Akoko for preservation and autopsy.
