2027: “Shock Awaits You” – Makinde Dares Critics, Says PDP is Alive and Kicking

ABEOKUTA — Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has fired a confident warning shot to political rivals and naysayers, declaring that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains a formidable force ready to spring surprises in the 2027 general elections.

Makinde made the declaration on Friday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during a high-powered South-West PDP Stakeholders’ Meeting. The gathering served as a show of force, attracting political heavyweights and party faithful from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti states.

Dismissing insinuations that the opposition party has lost its relevance, Makinde pointed to the massive turnout and the influx of new members as proof of the party’s vitality. The event witnessed the formal reception of defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), a move seen as a significant morale booster for the opposition in the region.

“I can assure you that the PDP is well and alive. Whoever thinks otherwise will be surprised beyond their imagination,” Makinde told the cheering crowd.

The Oyo State Governor charged party leaders to stop focusing on noise and instead focus on the numbers that matter—the grassroots. He emphasized that the battle for 2027 would be won at the ward and community levels.

“So, my charge to you is, please hold your communities, hold your wards, hold your local governments, and it will be well with us,” he urged.

Earlier in his welcome address, Ladi Adebutu echoed Makinde’s sentiments, noting that the party has successfully reorganized its structures from the ward to the national level. “We have nothing to fear,” Adebutu affirmed, signaling that the South-West PDP is closing ranks ahead of the next election cycle.
