By Our Court Correspondent SAGAMU — The trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver behind the wheel of the Lexus SUV involved in the crash with boxing superstar Anthony Joshua, has been put on hold. The Magistrate Court in Sagamu, Ogun State, on Tuesday adjourned the case to February 25, 2026, stalling proceedings despite the presence of key witnesses. At the resumed hearing on Tuesday, the Prosecution Counsel, Richard Nigiwe, acknowledged that three out of four witnesses—officials from the FRSC and VIO—were present in court. However, Nigiwe requested an adjournment until March. He argued that the case file needed to be duplicated and sent to the Ogun State Attorney-General (AG) for legal advice before the trial could proceed. The Defence Counsel, Olalekan Abiodun, strongly objected to the delay. He argued that since the witnesses were already on the ground, the trial should commence immediately to avoid wasting judicial time. Presiding Magistrate Somefun overruled the objection but shortened the requested delay. The court ordered that the case file be sent to the State Attorney-General for legal advice and adjourned the matter to February 25, 2026 for a progress report.
