By Our Reporter Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has sparked a massive online controversy by declaring himself “bigger” than the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. The declaration was made on Tuesday amid a heated verbal war with Fela’s son and fellow musician, Seun Kuti. In a blistering tirade shared via his Instagram stories, the Ojuelegba crooner mocked Seun, dismissing him as a “fool at 40” while asserting his dominance over the Kuti patriarch’s legacy. Wizkid wrote: “Pussy boy Ebigbirdkuti ok I big pass your papa!! Wetin u one do? Fool at 40!” Doubling down on his claims in a subsequent post, he added: “I’m big wiz everyday bigger than your papa! Wetin you wan do?” Taking the feud to X (formerly Twitter), Wizkid launched a personal attack on Seun’s lineage and activism. He contrasted the late Fela’s fight for national freedom with what he described as Seun’s petty squabbles with his fan base. “Fela fight for freedom this fool Dey fight fc! Oloshi Omo ale [Bastard]!” Wizkid tweeted. The verbal onslaught appears to be a direct retaliation to recent comments made by Seun Kuti. During a recent Instagram livestream, Seun had sharply criticised Wizkid’s fanbase—Wizkid FC—for constantly comparing the pop star to his late father. Describing the comparison as “disrespectful” and rooted in ignorance, Seun warned the fans to desist from portraying Wizkid as a modern-day Fela. “Wizkid FC, keep Fela’s name out of your mouths. You try to claim that your fake artiste is the new Fela. When you saw that the shoes were too big to fill and people like me didn’t allow you to get away with those insults, you became uncomfortable,” Seun stated. He further argued that the fans’ obsession with comparisons stemmed from a lack of spiritual satisfaction in the music they consumed. “Concentrate on your artiste. Can’t you enjoy the music without comparing it to something else? It’s because the music does not fill your spirit. You can pretend to enjoy it, but spiritually, you are not satisfied,” he added. Seun also lamented that “overzealous” fans were harming the Nigerian music industry and preventing artist collaborations due to toxic online rivalries. The online space is currently abuzz as fans and music enthusiasts debate Wizkid’s bold claim of surpassing the creator of Afrobeats.
