LAGOS — There is fresh wahala brewing regarding the final journey of the late Nigerian gospel sensation, Bunmi Akinnaanu (popularly known as Omije Ojumi). Just days after the burial dates were widely publicized, the family has abruptly pulled the plug on the entire ceremony!

The shock announcement came on Saturday via Lanre Alewilese, a close associate and member of the burial planning committee. In a statement that has got tongues wagging, he revealed that ALL arrangements previously set for next week have been “totally cancelled” and withdrawn.

The committee didn’t mince words, blaming the sudden cancellation on “issues arising from and within her family.” It appears there is some serious internal friction or disagreement that must be settled before the singer can be laid to rest.

Plans were already in top gear. Popular singer Alayo Melody had earlier circulated the details, which included a Service of Songs, Candlelight Procession, and a star-studded Artistes’ Night scheduled for January 20 and 21, 2026. The gospel community was ready to shut down Lagos to honour her.

As of now, the dates are void. No new date has been announced, leaving fans and colleagues in suspense.

Omije Ojumi passed away on January 12 at a Lagos hospital after a painful battle with a leg ailment. We hope the family finds peace to give her the befitting burial she deserv
