Reports indicate that the rumoured governorship ambition of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, has hit a major roadblock. Power brokers within the Lagos APC are reportedly maneuvering to shelve Seyi’s bid until 2031, paving the way for the dramatic return of former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. Despite support from youth groups and diaspora organizations, the powerful Governance Advisory Council (GAC) is allegedly hesitant to field Seyi in 2027. To fill the void, the GAC is reportedly considering a “political reconciliation” by bringing back Akinwunmi Ambode to complete his second term. A party source summed up the fear of the stakeholders: “Going for governorship would divide attention… You know Nigeria is a very funny country; they may not stand the father as a President and his son as a governor. Right now, the consensus is that Ambode or Alausa has a better chance.” While the APC calculates, the field is getting crowded. Jandor (now back in APC) has already declared interest, calling for a blend of experience and innovation. Meanwhile, heavyweights like Femi Gbajabiamila and Mudashiru Obasa are also rumored to be eyeing the seat.
