Nigerian gospel singer Alayo Melody has revealed that fear is spreading among gospel musicians following the death of fellow singer Toluwanisings, with several colleagues reportedly reaching out to him over concerns about the recent losses in the industry. Alayo Melody disclosed this in a recent video shared on Instagram, where he spoke about the emotional impact of Toluwanisings’ death and the calls he had received from distressed colleagues. The singer said the tragedy had deeply affected him, particularly because he was scheduled to perform alongside the late gospel artiste at a show next week. According to him, he and Toluwanisings still had pending discussions before the singer’s death, making the development particularly painful. Alayo explained that some gospel musicians had expressed fear over the situation, with concerns about who might be the next to die. He, however, urged his colleagues not to allow fear to overwhelm them but to reflect on their personal lives, spiritual commitments and the pressures associated with their profession. The gospel singer advised artistes against accepting every invitation for ministrations, especially when they feel uncomfortable or need time to rest. He maintained that musicians should learn to turn down engagements rather than compromise their peace of mind simply to please others. “It’s better to offend people than offend yourself. It’s impossible to satisfy or please everyone,” he said. Alayo also expressed concern that some gospel artistes had abandoned the spiritual foundations on which they were raised, alleging that fame, modernisation and pride had influenced their religious practices. Reflecting on his background in Christ Apostolic Church and his experience with Celestial Church of Christ, where he said he joined in 1995, he encouraged his colleagues to reconnect with their spiritual roots. He further urged gospel musicians to remain committed to their faith and develop a deeper understanding of the Bible rather than focus solely on performing at different churches and religious programmes. Despite the fears reportedly expressed by his colleagues, Alayo offered prayers against premature deaths and called for an end to what he described as evil within the gospel music industry. He also prayed for God’s comfort for Toluwanisings’ family and children following the singer’s demise. His comments have added to the conversations surrounding Toluwanisings’ death, particularly among gospel musicians reflecting on the loss and its impact on the industry.
