Amb. (Dr.) Opeyemi Ayanrinde, popularly known as MC Swagger, has been appointed Director-General of the Media and Strategic Communication Directorate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ibarapa East Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ayanrinde, a veteran radio and television broadcaster with more than two decades of experience, is also an actor, entertainer and grassroots political mobiliser.

His professional and political background includes serving as Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Broadcasters (ANBROAD), Oyo State Chapter, as well as Special Assistant on Mobilisation to the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly. He was also the Director of Media and Publicity to Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK) and convener of the TAKE IT Movement, which mobilised support for APC candidates across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State.

Reports on his political activities also show that Ayanrinde contested the Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency seat under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the 2023 general elections. He later joined the APC and has remained involved in grassroots mobilisation and political communication ahead of 2027.

Reacting to his latest appointment, Ayanrinde expressed appreciation to APC leaders, stakeholders, executives and members across the 10 wards of Ibarapa East for the confidence reposed in him.

He said the new responsibility would provide an opportunity to deploy his professional experience, media exposure and understanding of grassroots mobilisation to the campaign.

“May I use this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ibarapa East Party Leaders, Stakeholders, Party Executives and members across the 10 wards, on this new journey, assignment and appointment as your Deputy Director General Media, Strategic Communication Directorate, APC Ibarapa East Campaign Council,” he stated.

Ayanrinde added that he was prepared to serve and lead in the new assignment, acknowledging that the task ahead would require collective efforts.

“I promise to serve, lead and deliver. Thanks for the love, recognition and honour. It’s time to make use of the professional ethics, media experience, exposure and orientation.

“I recognise that the task ahead is demanding, but it is within our collective capacity. Together, we will give our best,” he said.

The broadcaster has in recent weeks featured prominently in APC mobilisation activities in Oyo State, including grassroots engagements ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ayanrinde’s appointment is expected to place media management, strategic communication and grassroots messaging at the centre of the APC campaign structure in Ibarapa East as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.
