The Iyin Development Federal Union (IDFU), the socio-cultural umbrella body representing sons and daughters of Iyin-Ekiti, has appealed to the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, to use his good offices to resolve amicably the misunderstanding surrounding a chair reportedly used by him during a recent church programme in the community.

The union, in a statement issued in Iyin-Ekiti on Saturday and signed by its President, Hon. Funso Adesokan, and National Secretary, Hon. Tope Akindele, said it was aware of ongoing efforts by well-meaning individuals to de-escalate the situation and restore the harmonious relationship between the Oluyin of Iyin, Oba Adeniyi Adeola Ajakaiye, the people of Iyin and the state government.

According to the union, it would not be appropriate to re-narrate the events surrounding the controversy, stressing that the matter could be resolved through dialogue and established peace-building efforts.

“We are aware of the ongoing efforts by well-meaning people to de-escalate the situation and restore the harmonious relationship between His Royal Majesty, the Oluyin of Iyin, Oba Adeniyi Adeola Ajakaiye, the good people of Iyin and the government of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji,” the union stated.

The IDFU described Governor Oyebanji as a friend and close associate of the Oluyin, as well as a distinguished son of Iyin by affiliation.

It noted that the governor’s administration had contributed significantly to the development of Iyin-Ekiti and created opportunities for many indigenes of the community to participate in government.

The union therefore stressed that the Oluyin and people of Iyin had nothing but goodwill towards the governor despite the recent misunderstanding.

The IDFU also reaffirmed its “unalloyed respect, confidence and loyalty” to Oba Adeniyi Adeola Ajakaiye, while emphasising its respect for both the traditional institution and the Christian community in Iyin-Ekiti.

It urged members of the public to disregard unverified claims circulating on social media and avoid drawing premature conclusions about the matter.

The union further appealed to Iyin sons and daughters, well-wishers and members of the media to remain calm and desist from amplifying narratives capable of creating unnecessary tension or damaging longstanding relationships.

“The IDFU reaffirms its commitment to constructive engagement and asks all well-meaning Nigerians to allow peace to reign while dialogue continues through the appropriate channels,” the statement concluded.
