Former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, has thrown his weight behind the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a bold and strategic roadmap for addressing Nigeria’s long-standing structural challenges and positioning the country for sustainable growth. Arapaja, who recently returned to his progressive political roots, said the Tinubu administration had demonstrated the courage to implement difficult but necessary reforms capable of stabilising the economy and driving national development. Speaking during a media interaction, the former deputy governor highlighted what he described as the administration’s landmark achievements across fiscal policy, infrastructure, education, healthcare and social investment. He commended the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, noting that the reforms had strengthened the nation’s fiscal outlook and contributed to reducing the debt-service-to-revenue ratio to below 50 per cent. According to him, the government’s commitment to infrastructure development is evident in projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which he described as a strategic investment that would improve connectivity, boost commerce and stimulate economic growth across the country. Arapaja also applauded the implementation of the Electricity Act, saying the decentralisation of the power sector would empower states to expand electricity generation and distribution, ultimately improving energy access for businesses and households. On education, he praised the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), saying the initiative had expanded access to higher education financing for hundreds of thousands of students. He further hailed the implementation of the ₦70,000 national minimum wage and the introduction of the CREDICORP consumer credit scheme, describing both as significant interventions aimed at improving workers’ welfare and enhancing the economic prospects of young Nigerians. In the health sector, Arapaja pointed to the ongoing upgrade of thousands of Primary Healthcare Centres nationwide as evidence of the administration’s determination to strengthen healthcare delivery, particularly at the grassroots. He also described the implementation of local government financial autonomy as a historic reform that would ensure direct allocation of federal funds to local governments, thereby promoting accountability and accelerating grassroots development. The former deputy governor maintained that the Tinubu administration had chosen to focus on enduring structural reforms rather than short-term political gains, stressing that the policies would create a solid foundation for sustainable economic growth, improved governance and national prosperity. According to him, supporting bold reforms that guarantee long-term national development remains a patriotic responsibility, expressing confidence that the administration’s policy direction would yield greater benefits for Nigerians in the years ahead. The position was contained in a statement issued by Dr. Yinka Folaran on behalf of Team Arapaja.
