The Umulogho community in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State has been plunged into a state of terror following the discovery of the decapitated body of Wendy Achumba, a student of the College of Nursing, Umuadara Umulogho.

The victim, an indigene of Ngwa in Abia State who was undergoing post-basic midwifery training, was discovered in her off-campus apartment on Thursday evening. The grim discovery was made by neighbours who became suspicious after she failed to emerge from her room or respond to repeated calls for several hours.

Witnesses at the scene revealed that residents were forced to break down the door to her apartment after their concerns mounted. They were met with the horrific sight of the student’s lifeless body with her head severed. According to local sources, the apartment door was still locked from the inside when the discovery was made, and the victim’s mobile phone was conspicuously missing, fueling speculation about the motive behind the cold-blooded killing.

The incident has triggered widespread panic among the student population of the College of Nursing, with many expressing deep fears for their safety. Tensions escalated significantly when angry youths in the community confronted police officers upon their arrival at the scene, protesting the insecurity that has allowed such a heinous crime to occur in their midst.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that the Command has officially commenced a high-level investigation into the murder. He confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer and other tactical operatives visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, after which the victim’s remains were recovered and deposited in the morgue.
