The ancient and bustling landscape of Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State was thrown into a frenzy of celebration today, May 19, 2026, as Archbishop (Professor) Okoro was officially selected and presented with his certificate of office as the new Eze Ndi Igbo of the locality. The area literally stood still for hours as colourful cultural displays, rhythmic traditional drumming, and a massive turnout of Igbo residents and well-wishers transformed the venue into a carnival of sorts, marking a significant milestone in the leadership of the Igbo community in Oyo State. The official selection and presentation ceremony was performed by the paramount Eze Ndi Igbo of Ibadanland and Yorubaland, His Royal Highness, Eze (Dr.) James Nduka Oramadike, who described the day as a historic moment for the preservation of Igbo identity and structured leadership outside the homeland. While presenting the certificate, Eze Oramadike noted that the choice of Archbishop Okoro was highly strategic, given his dual pedigree as an academic powerhouse and a spiritual leader. He urged the new monarch to be a father to all, reminding him that leadership under the current dispensation demands high diplomacy, patience, and a deep sense of responsibility toward ensuring peaceful coexistence with the host community. Eze Oramadike also used the opportunity to reinforce the message of harmony, charging all Igbo sons and daughters in Ido LGA and across Yorubaland to remain law-abiding partners in progress, while respecting the traditional institutions of Oyo State. Accepting the responsibility amidst thunderous applause and traditional salutations of “Igwe!”, Archbishop (Prof.) Okoro expressed deep appreciation to the leadership of the Igbo apex body for the trust reposed in him. He declared that his reign would focus strictly on the socio-economic empowerment of his people, educational advancement for the youth, and the fostering of unbreakable ties with the local authorities. The newly installed Eze Ndi Igbo of Ido LGA further assured the Oyo State government and the host traditional rulers of his total commitment to maintaining peace and promoting mutual respect between the Igbo community and their Yoruba neighbours. The event concluded with an outpouring of goodwill messages from various community leaders, market associations, and stakeholders who described Professor Okoro’s ascension to the throne as a well-deserved victory for unity and grassroots development.
