A prominent grassroots mobilizer and All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart in Oyo State, popularly known as Adigun Ibadan, has sent a chilling warning to the party’s national leadership, declaring that the insistence on direct primaries ahead of the 2027 elections is a “death trap” that could lead to widespread bloodshed in the state.

In a viral video currently circulating across social media platforms, a visibly agitated Adigun Ibadan raised the alarm over what he described as an “engineered crisis” designed to sideline key stakeholders. He warned that the high-tension atmosphere within the Oyo APC is a ticking time bomb that will explode if the party leadership fails to adopt a consensus arrangement.

“I am not talking to the leaders; I am talking to the party members,” Adigun stated in the video. “With the tension in APC today, there will be bloodshed if we go for a direct primary. I am telling you. Let us use wisdom. Don’t kill yourselves because of politics.”

Adigun’s outburst specifically targeted the treatment of the 2023 governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin, whom he described as the “sacrificial lamb” of the party’s internal friction. He accused certain leaders—some of whom he claimed won their seats without spending a kobo or mounting a single billboard—of betraying Folarin, the man he says unified the party for President Bola Tinubu’s victory.

The party chieftain did not spare the Presidency in his critique, questioning why President Tinubu has remained silent while the Oyo chapter edges toward a total breakdown. He noted that despite several high-profile meetings involving Senator Sarafadeen Alli, Senator Buhari, and Chief (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi, the crisis has only deepened.

The most explosive part of the footage shows Adigun Ibadan questioning Folarin’s continued stay in the party. “If Folarin leaves APC today, is it fair or not? They’ve shown him that he doesn’t matter,” he said, before asking his audience if they would be willing to follow the Senator to another political platform.

Political analysts in Ibadan suggest that Adigun’s warning reflects a deepening divide between the “Folarin camp” and other power blocs within the Oyo APC. With 2027 mobilization already in high gear, the video has heightened fears that the party may be heading toward a violent implosion if a middle ground is not reached between the warring factions.
