The political landscape of Oyo South Senatorial District witnessed a major shift today as prominent philanthropist and grassroots mobilizer, Oludare Owolabi, popularly known as “Mr. Lovely,” formally declared his intention to contest for the Red Chamber under the platform of the Accord Party.

The declaration, which took place at the Watershed Events Centre in Ibadan, saw a massive turnout of party faithful, political leaders, and supporters that left the venue filled to the brim. The atmosphere was electric as various groups from the nine local government areas making up the district converged to witness what many described as a “liberation move” for the zone.

This formal declaration follows a significant prelude weeks ago when Owolabi visited the Accord Party state secretariat to pick up his expression of interest and nomination forms. His earlier move at the party headquarters had already sent signals of his serious intent, but the sea of heads at the Watershed ground today served as a powerful validation of his grassroots appeal.

While addressing the cheering crowd, Owolabi took a moment to express deep appreciation to the party leadership for their steadfastness. He specifically lauded the Accord Party governorship aspirant, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, thanking him for his unwavering support and exemplary leadership role which has helped strengthen the party’s presence in the state.

Owolabi emphasized that his decision to run under the Accord Party was a strategic move to provide a credible and people-oriented alternative for the constituents. He noted that the “Mr. Lovely” brand, built on years of selfless service, is now being channeled into a formal political mandate to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every household in Ibadan and Ibarapa.

”Our mission is to bridge the gap between the people and the government,” Owolabi stated. “The Accord Party represents a platform of integrity and progress, and with the support of leaders like Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, we will redefine representation in Oyo South by prioritizing youth empowerment and the welfare of our people.”
The event was attended by high-ranking leaders of the Accord Party who expressed confidence in Owolabi’s capacity to clinch the seat. Speakers at the declaration praised his track record of community development, noting that the overwhelming crowd was a testament to the people’s desire for fresh leadership.

The declaration has significantly heated up the race for the Oyo South seat, as analysts suggest that Owolabi’s entrance presents a formidable challenge to the established order. As the event concluded, the echoes of “The Lovely Mandate” resonated through the streets of Ibadan, signaling the commencement of a robust campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
