Oyo PDP Disowns Unity Mega Rally, Labels APM Alliance a Fraud

THE official leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has moved decisively to distance itself from a purported “Grand Alliance” with the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), labeling the organizers of an upcoming “Unity Mega Rally” as fraudulent impostors.

In a sharp rebuttal on Tuesday, the party’s official structure denounced a viral publication and flyer promoting a mega rally scheduled for Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the historic Mapo Hall. The event, which prominently features the PDP umbrella alongside the APM’s cassava tubers logo, was reportedly orchestrated by a group identifying itself as the “Uncompromised PDP.”

The official Oyo PDP leadership clarified that no such alliance exists and described the proponents of the rally as a “former faction” seeking to sow confusion within the party’s ranks.

“Our attention has been drawn to a deceptive publication calling on Elders, Leaders, Stakeholders, and ‘GSM Lovers’ to attend a rally at Mapo Hall. We wish to state categorically that Engineer Seyi Makinde remains the only recognized leader of the PDP in Oyo State,” a party spokesperson declared. The leadership further warned that the use of the “GSM Lovers” branding—a signature moniker for Governor Makinde’s supporters—is a calculated attempt to gain unearned legitimacy.

The party issued a stern warning to its members, particularly party Elders and support groups, to ignore the invitation. It emphasized that the “Unity Mega Rally” is an unauthorized gathering and warned that any member caught participating in the event would be sanctioned for anti-party activities.

This development highlights a deepening rift within the state’s political landscape. While the “Uncompromised” group continues to push for the 10:00 am gathering at Mapo Hill, the official PDP hierarchy maintains that the movement is merely a assembly of expelled interests and rival political players.

As the Thursday deadline approaches, the official PDP has urged all loyalists to remain steadfast and ignore the “fraudulent” calls for a coalition that does not have the backing of the party’s state or national executive councils.
