The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a temporary power interruption affecting several areas in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The outage, which runs from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., became necessary to facilitate annual preventive maintenance on one of the 100MVA 132/33kV power transformers at the Ayede Transmission Substation. In a statement issued by the TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the regulatory body noted that the scheduled shutdown is essential to keep the facility in optimal working condition. Engineers are expected to carry out routine checks and maintenance procedures throughout the eight-hour window. As a result of the maintenance operation, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity for distribution during this timeframe. The affected areas include the Express, Industrial, and Oluyole communities within the state capital. The management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria has expressed regret for the disruption and assured residents that normal power supply will be restored as soon as the maintenance exercise concludes in the evening.
