The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has returned the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, to its custody following his court appearance on Tuesday.

El-Rufai, who was briefly released on March 27, 2026, on compassionate grounds following the death of his mother, was re-arraigned at the Kaduna State High Court to face a separate set of charges filed against him by the anti-graft agency.

However, the legal proceedings encountered a hitch as the absence of the second defendant stalled the hearing. Consequently, the court adjourned the case to April 10, 2026, to allow for the presence of all parties involved.

Following the adjournment at the State High Court, the former governor was immediately moved to the Federal High Court in Kaduna. It is expected that his legal team will move his bail application before the federal court to secure his release pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The former governor has been under the radar of the ICPC over allegations bordering on official misconduct and corruption during his eight-year tenure as the chief executive of Kaduna State.

As of the time of filling this report, El-Rufai remains in the custody of the commission as the legal battle over his bail application continues.
