In a move that is set to send shockwaves through the Nigerian economy, the Dangote Refinery has officially announced an immediate upward adjustment in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol.

Starting from 12:00 a.m. today, March 21, 2026, the gantry price for the product has been hiked from ₦1,175 to ₦1,245 per litre—a significant increase of ₦70 per litre.

According to a notice sent to customers, the refinery attributed the sudden price review to “persisting global geopolitical tensions” affecting the energy market.

The adjustment doesn’t stop at the pump. The refinery also increased its coastal supply price, which moved from ₦1,512,648 to ₦1,606,518 per metric tone

The management clarified that the new rates apply to all outstanding and unloaded volumes currently at the facility.

For marketers holding valid Bank Guarantees (BGs), loading can continue under current arrangements, but with a major catch: they must settle the price difference. The refinery has set a strict deadline of March 23, 2026, for all such differential payments to be completed.
