Terror struck the hearts of hundreds of commuters this morning, Monday, March 16, 2026, as the flagship Abuja–Kaduna train service was rocked by a violent derailment. A massive collision near the Asham station sent passengers flying across compartments, leaving several bloodied and bruised in what survivors are calling a “scene from a horror movie.”

What was supposed to be a routine morning journey quickly turned into a desperate scramble for survival as the train screeched to a halt with a deafening bang.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene shortly after the train departed, with the force of the collision throwing travelers from their seats and smashing them against metal fittings.

The journey eventually resumed towards Kubwa at a reduced speed, but the psychological toll on those on board was evident as many remained in a state of shock.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, has confirmed the incident. He stated that while several passengers sustained injuries, thankfully, no fatalities have been recorded so far.

“It is confirmed that our Abuja-Kaduna train had an incident at Asham. Passengers were injured while an investigation is ongoing into the exact cause,” Opeifa stated.

The injured have since been moved to the Idu Train Station for urgent medical attention, while operations on the busy corridor have been temporarily suspended to allow for a full safety assessment.
