OSOGBO — A quiet Sunday morning turned bloody along the Osogbo–Iwo Road after operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) allegedly shot a motorist dead in broad daylight. The incident, which took place around 10:00 a.m. at the Onibueja area in Ido-Osun, has left residents in shock and sparked a wave of anger against the security agency. Eyewitnesses reported a terrifying scene where the victim, who was driving toward Osogbo, was targeted by operatives dressed in civilian clothes (mufti). Without any clear provocation, the officers reportedly opened fire on the vehicle. “It was like a movie scene, but with a real body,” said Adebayo Adeyanju, a witness. “They shot him while he was driving. He died right there behind the wheel, and the car was full of bullet holes. The officers didn’t even wait; they jumped in their vehicle and fled as soon as they saw what they had done.” The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the incident and identified the shooters as Customs officials. The Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed that the command has already made progress in bringing the perpetrators to book. “Those who allegedly fired the shots are Customs operatives, and we have arrested two people in connection with the incident,” Ojelabi confirmed. He added that the police are conducting a deep investigation to ensure the law takes its full course. The Onibueja area remains tense as a large crowd gathered to condemn the killing, with many questioning why security operatives were operating in mufti and using lethal force on a public road. The identity of the slain driver is yet to be revealed, and the Nigeria Customs Service has not yet commented on the actions of its men.
