IBADAN – The ancient city of Ibadan was a beehive of activity over the weekend as women leaders, professionals, and budding entrepreneurs converged for the Big Conversation Conference 2026. The event, which was much more than a talk shop, saw the Dominion Broadcast Group transform its popular television dialogue into a high-impact physical summit aimed at providing real-world solutions for women in business, career, and relationships. A major highlight that sent ripples of excitement through the crowd was the presentation of a ₦250,000 business grant aimed at scaling small-scale enterprises. Following an intense pitch session between three finalists, Adebisi Opeyemi Aminat emerged as the winner, securing the seed capital to take her business to the next level. The General Manager (Television) at Dominion Broadcast Group and co-host of the programme, Ronke Giwa‑Onafuwa, emphasized that the grant was a deliberate move to move beyond rhetoric. “We are not just talking. We are also putting our money where our mouth is by supporting a business with ₦250,000. We want to empower people not only through conversations but through real action,” she declared. Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Florence Ajimobi, wife of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Adekemi Felicia Opatunde urged women to stop sitting on their ideas. Speaking on the theme “Accelerate Passion: Turning Meaningful Conversations into Measurable Action,” Opatunde challenged participants to translate their inner drive into tangible results that can transform their communities and personal lives. Supporting this sentiment, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State Chapter, Omolola Alamu, hailed the conference as a “beautiful” initiative essential for strengthening the bond and economic standing of women in society. The conference, curated by Lead Project Manager Tamilore Aare, featured a “who’s who” of female thought leaders, including Osarennoma Saba, Abigail Brown, Dr. Tinu Smith, Barrister Toju Ikime, and Ebun Akinwale, among others. Beyond the serious business of grants and panels, the atmosphere was electrified by soul-stirring musical performances from Odere, fireside chats, and high-level networking sessions. With the success of the 2026 edition, the Dominion Broadcast Group has hinted that the “Big Conversation” is only getting bigger. Organizers revealed plans to make the conference an annual event, with a roadmap to expand the empowerment train to other cities across the federation.
